 We scrutinize each prescription for possible allergy problems. An allergy to one medicine can cause "cross-allergy" to other, seemingly unrelated medications that many patients and doctors are unaware of.

 Many drugs interact with other drugs and should not be combined. While many books and even Internet sites claim to list these interactions, some are more significant than others. In many cases the drugs may be taken but at different times. In other cases, the drugs could result in fatal consequences if combined. We help sort through these various circumstances and help the patient and/or doctor choose appropriate alternatives.

 We carefully explain all pertinent facts about prescriptions to the patient. We also provide written information for the patient, since it's difficult to remember everything communicated verbally. We encourage the patient to call us when they have further questions about their medications. This is difficult with the large, impersonal chain stores with automated phone systems, or the 800-numbers at mail-order and Internet pharmacies, often answered by non-pharmacists. We've been counseling patients about their medications since we began...having always thought it was important that people know what they were taking, why, what side effects to expect, etc. Sadly, not all pharmacists shared this belief, so lawmakers have since made it mandatory that the patient be counseled about medications if desired.

 We maintain an extensive library of informative brochures and booklets on virtually all medications and disease states. Plus, we explain the significance of the information rather than simply stuffing it into the prescription bag. They have significant side effects and interactions with other drugs. They should not be taken without first asking the pharmacist if they mix ok with your other medicines.
