Immunizations can save your life!

Each year, 80,000 Americans die from diseases that could have been prevented by an immunization.
36,000 die from influenza alone. Thousands more die or suffer serious disease from hepatitis, tetanus, meningitis, and others.

Vaccinations are not just for kids. Many adults don't realize they need vaccinations as well as their children.

Now, Meadow Lane Pharmacy offers the convenience of immunizations for several diseases. Could you be at risk?

• Influenza: 36,000 die in US each year from "the flu." Annual vaccination recommended for those over 50, women in 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy, residents of long-term care facilities, anyone (any age) with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, kidney disease, or weakened immune system, and for those who work or live with any of these individuals. Best given in October, November, or December, but even January or February is not too late.
  
• Pneumococcal: recommended for anyone one time at age 65 or older, or younger than 65 if you have chronic diseases listed above; usually good for lifetime, although certain individuals may need a second immunization in 5 yrs.
  
• Tetanus/diptheria: Booster recommended every 10 years after receiving primary series of 3 immunizations
  
• Hepatitis A: Recommended for many adults, especially travelers to certain areas outside the US. Two immunizations recommended 6 months apart.
  
• Hepatitis B: Recommended for anyone who comes in contact with body fluids, such as health care workers, travelers, dialysis patients, or persons at risk from sexual exposure or IV drug use.
  
• Meningococcal: Meningitis is a serious, potentially fatal bacterial infection of the blood or membranes surrounding the brain. Especially at risk are those living in close quarters, such as military recruits and college freshmen living in dorms.
